東京・横浜 ビルディングス 2013 -2015

東京から横浜にかけて沢山のビルディングが建ち並ぶ。いったい何処から東京で何処からが横浜なのか。電車の車窓からでは、街の境目すら皆目わからない。

「日本人は、どうやって東京と横浜の区別をつけるんだい？」
友人のドイツ人の問いに明確に答えられなかった。

しかし、不思議なことに仔細にみると同じ形のビルディングは、ふたつと存在はしない。これらはすべて誰かが造り上げたデザインなのだ。直線であろうと、曲線であろうとカメラのファィンダー越しに、美しい幾何学模様を発見したとき何故だか最高に嬉しくなる。複雑な模様になればなるほど、嬉々となる自分がそこにいる。

唐突に幼少期に、全ての自動車の形を覚えるときの感覚が蘇った。

形に特徴のある部分を抜き出して記憶していたことを思い出した。　　

いまも無意識にデザインを作り直す作業を続けている。

Tokyo / Yokohama Buildings 2013 - 2015

Between Tokyo and Yokohama is one continual line of buildings. It is not obvious as to where one city ends and the other starts. Looking out of the train window, you would not have the slightest idea where the border between them is.　How do Japanese people differentiate between Tokyo and Yokohama?” asked a German friend. I did not have a clear answer for him.
However, the strange thing is, if you scrutinize things further, the exact same shaped building cannot be found anywhere.
All of these buildings have been designed by somebody. Whether they be straight lines or curved, when I discover beautiful geometric patterns through the camera’s viewfinder, I am extremely delighted. The more complex the pattern, the happier I am. I am suddenly taken back to my childhood and the feeling I got when I remembered all the various shapes of cars around at that time.
I remembered all the shapes of the cars by memorizing a particular portion of their design. Even today, I unconsciously continue to rework design.
